About Colin Rutherford

Colin Rutherford photo

Colin Rutherford has loved art as far back as he can remember. As a child he would spend much of his time drawing on any scrap of paper he could find. He developed a strong interest in comics and animation. It seemed magical how artists could create such fantastic images through the use of line and colour.

Colin was raised in the town of Sooke in British Columbia, Canada. He drew cartoons for his high school newspaper and was the editorial cartoonist for his community's weekly newspaper, the Sooke News Mirror. Colin studied Commercial Animation at Capilano College for a year. He then attended the University of Victoria, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in History. After graduation Colin worked as a prepress technician at a book publishing company for over three years, where he scanned and edited images, prepared files for print and designed book covers. Colin was also employed by the Royal Roads University Foundation to scan and edit artist Robert Bateman's extensive collection of slides. Colin has a certificate in Web Foundations from Camosun College.

Colin currently lives in Sooke with his wife May. He has created colinrutherford.ca to share his artwork and interests with others. If you would like to hire Colin for an illustration or design project you can contact him at colin@colinrutherford.ca.
